Tom is a native North Carolinian born and raised in Greensboro. After finishing college, he moved to Charlotte in 1979. He moved to Weddington over 10 years ago from the Ballantyne area to escape the overdevelopment and unreasonable approach to government of Charlotte/ Mecklenburg County.
Tom is a conservative running for Weddington Town Council District 2 to protect Weddington’s unique values and its small-town rural living atmosphere.
Tom moved to Weddington because he knew it had his values and a place to live in a safe and friendly environment with his wife. Tom will fight to protect Weddington’s small town values and atmosphere from those who wish to make it like every other surrounding community, with out-of-control development and high-density housing. Maintaining low density- high value housing will allow the town to keep a low tax rate while maintaining services required, prevent our schools from being overcrowded and traffic from being intolerable.
Tom received his BA at Emory University and MBA from Wake Forest University. After college he moved to the Charlotte area and worked in the banking, and finance for 40 years before retiring from BB&T as a Senior Vice President.
The importance of public and civic service was instilled in him by his parents. He is a third generation Rotarian serving as Club President of the Rotary Club of Charlotte South, Assistant Governor and District Governor for Rotary District 7680, which encompasses Union and 13 surrounding counties.
He is currently on the Board of Directors for OrthoCarolina Research Institute, serving on it finance committee, President of the Charlotte South Rotary Charitable Foundation, and President of the Clan Keith Society USA, Inc.
At the State level he has served on numerous advisory committees for the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries and currently serves on the Southern Advisory Committee. He served on the SeaGrant Fisheries Research Grants Committee, selecting reviewing and allocating up to $1.5 million in research grants annually.
On the county level he served on the Union County Stormwater Advisory Committee in 2022 and is currently the Chairman of the Union County Board of Equalization and Review.
He lives in the Providence Place neighborhood with his wife Paula and her mother Jean.
